The pilgrimage path from Egersund to Trondheim

You find Eivindvik, with Gulatinget, along the costal pilgrim path. A route along the beautiful Norwegian coast with reefs, islets, mountains and a rich history. Eivindvik has been chosen as a key location along the route because of it’s distinctive historical, traditional and cultural value. For boats, Eivindvik offered a safe haven along the coastal route to Trondheim.

Gulating was an annual parliamentary assembly which took place in Gulen for the vikings. You can visit this site, 4 kilometeres from Eivindvik center, which was one of the oldest and largest parliamentary assemblies in medieval Norway. The Gulating Millennium Site (2005) at Flolid is decorated with Bård Breivik's monumental artworks commemorating the thing's importance to Norway as a nation. The Park is open to the public all year round. In the village of Eivindvik, you'll find stone crosses dating from the 10th and 11th centuries, as well as Herresalen, the former home of Dean Dahl, an important figure in the village's history.

How to get here by boat

We recommend the express boat from Bergen to the stop called Sollibotn. The boat has two daily departures and you can find the route on norled.no/en. We offer an arranged pick up, or you can walk from the boat stop to the village center along our gravel road. Some arrivals also corresponds with public transportation.

By foot you will be wander along our historical, cultural walk with the stone crosses from the Viking parliament, the church and to the center of Eivindvik, where you find Eivindvik brygge with accomodation. Spend one night in our hotel rooms before you walk or get transportation back to Sollibotn for the most convenient departure to your next destination, with the express boat.

You can also book transport to Rutledal where there is a ferry to the next key location along the coastal pilgrimage path; Hyllestad. The last picture in the picture series below is from Hyllestad. The express boat is an comfortable option if you want to go further north, or just back to Bergen.

By car

Enter Eivindvik on Google maps, and you find that it’s a 2 hour drive from Bergen. You can either take the ferry at Leirvåg - Sløvåg or take the scenic route via Brekke, where you drive along Sognefjorden on swirling and narrow roads.
